Organizing Without Permission

Feb 1, 2021 at 6:30 CDT

Madison Area DSA’s Labor Working Group will be hosting an online panel with workers from North Carolina Public Service Workers Union, (UE) Local 150 on Feb 1st, 2021 at 6:30pm. UE Local 150 is a public sector union in North Carolina, where collective bargaining in the public sector is illegal. Even without formal rights, the union has organized thousands of state and city workers, and won major victories including a $15 minimum wage for full-time state employees.

State Worker Power

State Worker Power - My Job: What's Working, What's Not?

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 27, 2021

6 – 7:30 PM

Join us and add to the discussion!

Happy 2021! What is working, what is not - about your job? Many Wisconsin state employees are working from home. This is a long term arrangement and we need to hear how our coworkers are doing while we're apart.

While we all appreciate the 2% raise effective in January, it does not offset the losses from inflation so is not a real gain in our spending power.

In the next budget, we remain committed to advancing our pay in a substantial way, so we can sustain ourselves & our families. The Governor's budget proposal will be out in mid-February. There will also be many changes to our work life with new stimulus funding rounds from the federal government.

Wisconsin state employees want to have power and organization in this new year, to protect our interests. What actions should we take now to make that happen? Also - it will be a decade old next month, repeal Act 10 now!

Wisconsin State Worker Power is a group of state employees (and friends) discussing issues affecting state workers and what we can do about them.

Finally—it’s President-elect Biden

Patience—counseled by former Vice President Joe Biden all election week as Americans waited for votes to be counted—finally paid off Nov. 7, four days after Election Day, when Biden won in Pennsylvania and gained enough Electoral College votes to acquire a new title: president-elect. AFT President Randi Weingarten says the union’s leaders and members “can’t wait to get started” on the work ahead “with an administration that will embrace and fight for the values we hold dear.”
